Just this week, Phytel was recently recognized by the International Quality and Productivity Center (IQPC) for implementing a Total Quality Management (TQM) Plan to improve customer service and satisfaction, software development and implementation methodology.

Phytel was named one of only a few finalists for the 2013 Best Start-Up Business Process Excellence Program awarded by the IQPC.

Organizations are recognized for implementing the best structured Lean Six Sigma (L6S) and business process excellence initiative — that  is two years old or less — to systematically manage enterprises, pinpoint process improvement opportunities, develop solutions and ensure benefits are realized. Qualifications for the award are judged by a panel of more than 15 industry leaders and experts in L6S and business process management.

I believe that this recognition would not have been possible without the trust and collaboration of Phytel’s hospital and health system customers, and the dedication of our staff to designing innovative solutions and exceeding client expectations for quality, customer service and satisfaction.

TQM Initiative

As part of our TQM initiative, we:

  • Hired a certified L6S Master Black Belt in February 2011 to develop and deploy the culture change
  • Trained 16 champions in a two-day L6S course
  • Established a balanced scorecard to measure the key value streams and owners responsible for their continuous improvement.

We also integrated and drove L6S and ISO 9001: 2008, which sets out the requirements of a quality management system, throughout the company via training and communications.

Faster Product Launches, Best Practices and More

All of these measures enabled Phytel to:

  • Increase by 114 percent our ability to quickly develop and launch products and features
  • Decrease implementation time by 66 percent through automation of several manual methods
  • Ensure all areas have developed, documented and maintained records showing they are following current best practices
  • Gain visibility up and down the organizational hierarchy via TQM automation tools

Being recognized as a finalist for this award  confirms our strategy of advancing a culture of quality and process excellence, as well as the outstanding results we have achieved due to our commitment to continuous quality improvement.
